“It will be NC-17. It’s going to be raunchy. We are 100 per cent going there.” is what Kelly Marcel said, the screenwriter hired for Focus Features’ adaptation of the best seller book series Fifty Shades of Grey.
Marcel added more as she spoke to The Telegraph in the UK about her adaptation. Though sharing a minimum of plot details she promised, fans, “a lot of sex,” and ending with the wish, “The fans love this book, and I want them to love the film as much. I want to make them laugh and cry, to turn them on. I want this to do everything.”
Fify Shades of Grey’s sex and BDSM scenes have had a big role in bringing the series to where it is now, and it is no wonder that Marcel promised to live up to the standards.
Still a NC-17, a rating is a big challange; plenty of theater chains can refuse to book a film with an NC-17 rating, and there will be incredibly limited advertising for a film with that rating on TV and in newspapers.
But this is Fifty Shades of Grey were are talking about. If Marcel keeps her promise, no rating can stop them. They could be the first NC-17 movie in the modern era to become a genuine blockbuster!
