Gong Li Joins Marco Polo Movie

Gong Li

We haven’t seen much of Tarsem Singh in a while. After releasing Immortals in late 2011, he went straight into directing the Snow White adaptation Mirror Mirror, which came out in late March.

But it seems he has a new project. Screen Daily has reported that Gong Li has signed for a lead role in Tarsem Singh’s film about explorer Marco Polo.

You should remember Gong in Memoirs of a Geisha, though she did star in the Chinese remake of the Mel Gibson comedy What Women Want, last year.

Nothing much is said about the Marco Polo movie, there isn’t a title yet. But will apparently be a co-production between the US and the Chinese and will feature multiple Chinese actors. Gong also said “So far the collaboration between China and the US has mainly involved Chinese actors going to work aborad, so it’s a great thing to have a Chinese story shoot in China with both Chinese and foreign actors.”
