The last to play Jacqueline Onassis Kennedy, was Katie Holmes, the troubled TV miniseries The Kennedys. And let us not comment.
Lee Daniels’s upcoming film The Butler has found his Jackie; Minka Kelly, will play the First Lady. The movie will be told as a chronicle of Eugene Allen’s 50-year service as a butler in the White House.
Kelly will be joining a stellar cast including Oprah, who co-produced Daniels’s Precious, is playing the wife of the titular butler; Matthew McConaughey, John Cusack and Nicole Kidman.
Also in the cast are Alan Rickman, Jane Fonda, Cuba Gooding Jr., David Oyelowo, Terrence Howard and of course Forest Whitaker, who is playing the title role.
The movie seems to be based on the excellent Washington Post article written on the eve of Barack Obama’s election as President. It focused on Allen’s experience working at the White House while America sorted out its own very complicatedattitudes toward African-Americans.
