Kenny Ortega To Direct Dirty Dancing Remake

Dirty Dancing

In 2007 Kenny Ortega, best known for directing all three High School Musicals, had been hired to helm a remake of Footloose. Of course that saw Zac Efron signing for the lead role and then leaving and the project fell apart.

Now a press release has been sent out announcing that the filmmaker has signed on to direct a remake of Dirty Dancing, the 1987 Emile Ardolino film starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey.

Ortega was actually was the film’s choreographer and also directed two episodes of the Dirty Dancing television series that aired from 1988-1989. The story is about a girl (Grey) who travels with her family to upstate New York and falls in love with a dancing instructor (Swayze).

Lionsgate to restart the franchise despite the disaster that was 2004’s Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights.

Now why would they make a Dirty Dancing remake? Imagine Efron taking the role that once was of Swayze, this is even worse than making the remake itself.
