Apparently there is still an adaptation of Great Expectations, going on. Directed by Mike Newell Great Expectations is getting ready for Charles Dickens’s 200th birthday.
According to Variety, star Jeremy Irvine is in negotiations to play Pip, while Helena Bonham Carter is in talks to play the spooky benefactor Miss Havisham.
Production is set to start this fall, and the key role of Estella, the young girl who is Miss Havisham’s ward and whom Pip falls in love with at a young age, has yet to be cast.
In 1998 there was a version of Great Expectations starring Ethan Hawke and Gwyneth Paltrow, and was directed by Alfonso Cuaron who just like Newell directed Harry Potter.
In order to get things moving they should start looking for an actress to play Estella.
