Deadline reports that the Australian actress, after originally being in the running for the part of Mary Todd Lincoln, has signed on to play Nancy Hanks Lincoln, Abe’s mother.
It is somehow the same thing that happened with James Franco when he auditioned for the role of Spider-Man in Sam Raimi’s first film version of the character. The role, eventually went to Tobey Maguire, but Raimi liked Franco so much that he decided to cast him as Harry Osborne, a vital role in the Spidey universe.
Nancy is killed by a vampire early in the film, which leads our 16th president to go to war against all bloodsuckers. It is of course a much smaller role than the one she auditioned for before. But hopefully her scene will leave a mark that will stay with audiences as they head out the theater.
Directed by Timur Bekmambetov, the film also stars Benjamin Walker as Abraham, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Dominic Cooper, Jimmi Simpson, and Anthony Mackie.
