Rumor: Viggo Mortensen wanted for Snyder’s Superman

Viggo Mortensen

It seems that Viggo Mortensen is at the top of the list to play the villain General Zod in Zack Snyder’s Superman: Man of Steel. If this is true, then maybe the unknown female role is of the Kryptonian villainess named URSA.

British actor Henry Cavill was casted as Superman himself a while ago, and there have been no more official casting announcements since then. Except for another rumor that Snyder wants Kevin Costner to play Jonathan Kent. And that too remains unconfirmed.
This rumor, if true, confirms another rumor, that General Zod, who was played by Terence Stamp in the early days of the franchise, would be the new film’s principal villain. Mortensen is currently in negotiations to star in Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman with Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron.

THR also says that there are other actors being looked at for the part, but Mortensen is their top choice.

Because Mortensen played Aragorn in the Lord of the Rings films he’s typically perceived as a hero character. So seeing him playing a villain would be interesting.
